Bid for Freedom is over for another year, but...
Another auction, another extraordinary success.
As usual, a few works failed to find buyers (it was the Anzac Day weekend, which may have contributed); and a couple of sales fell through.
Only one of the Wolfgang Sievers photos sold. The others are now available at prices well below those which have been realised at other auctions since Wolfgang's death.
All the works below are now available at the artists' (often generously discounted - they believe in the cause) reserves.

Jenni Mitchell

Jenni Mitchell's work has been exhibited and collected extensively throughout Australia and overseas. Jenni currently teaches private classes at Monsalvat. 'Mt Arapilies' is a study of a well known local range which creates a very strong sense of rock against the clear blue sky. website

Mervyn Hannan

Mervyn Hannan was born in Eltham among the artists of Monsalvat. He is a musician, painter and sculptor. He has travelled widely and has left much ephemeral art around the globe. He is currently sharing studios with his partner Jenni Mitchell at Monsalvat in Eltham. "I love experimenting with multi-media and the process of encouraging the sculptured form to emerge from the raw material."

Verna Woods
Venice Dreaming

As a 1970's student of the late tonal painter Alan Martin (of the Max Meldrum School) Verna Woods fell in love with pastels in 2000, after 20 years 'off the boil'. Under tuition of Barbara McManus and Janet Hayes, successful exhibitions have followed group trips to France (2004) and Italy (2006). This work conjures up fond memories of life in Venice. website

Lynne Boyd is fascinated by the natural elements of light, air and water. She is also interested in the way text, be it song, poetry or prose, engages with the imagination. She often immerses textual fragments within the space of the picture. This drawing attempts to explore sky light changing at dusk.

Cait Wait
San Woman, Nyae Nyae, Namibia - Fair Trade
Oils on canvas 60 x 76 cm
Cait Wait lives near Darwin and is a well-known 'territory' artist and for many years has worked in Aboriginal communities with indigenous artists. Cait also worked in Kiribati for four years and Namibia for one year as an Australian Volunteer during the 90's. Her paintings are influenced by the people and cultures she has lived with during her travels. website

Magupela

Magupela is a young artist from Mozambique. He has been living and exhibiting in Melbourne since 2005. He spent his adolescent years in the height of the Mozambican civil war and many of his artworks allude to the tough times families faced in this period. He also draws from his new home, Australia, and the blend of the two cultures and lifestyles is evident in much of his work. He has exhibited around the world including Italy and Kenya as well as Mozambique and Australia. website
